Former architect, Natasha Case and real estate developer Freya Estreller are “farchitecture” pioneers. (That’s food + architecture in case you didn’t know). In 2008, Natasha and Freya decided to trade in their former careers for something a little…cooler. They named their new business on wheels Cool Haus after Dutch architect Rem Koolhaus and the idea is that ice cream and cookie lovers design their own sandwich by choosing from six cookie foundations and 25 ice cream flavors with names like Frank Berry and Mies Vanilla Rohe. The delicious ice cream sandwiches are wrapped in edible potato paper and printed with soy ink, making the indulgence a little less guilty feeling.
Cool Haus has been so successful, there are now 4 trucks in LA, 2 trucks and 1 cart in NY, 2 trucks in Austin, and 2 trucks in Miami. Not to mention a Cool Haus shop in Culver City at 8588 Washington Blvd. AND sandwiches at Southern California Whole Foods Markets. Not too shabby! These brilliant ladies make it easy to get your cookie and ice cream fix. We doubt you’ll find flavors like butterscotch with rosemary, carrot cake batter, pistachio truffle and root beer float anywhere else. Yum!
To find the Coolhaus truck, check the website’s calendar or go to twitter.com/coolhaus.
